Wedding planning weekend at Flor de Cabrera

I want to drop a quick line about my experience at Flor de Cabrera in the Dominican Republic. It is one of the most outstanding villas for weddings in the Dominican Republic. I experienced first hand, the handcrafted experience couples would receive at the villa. Being invited as the exclusive photographer for the wedding planning weekend was a great honor. I had a chance to meet couples who are planning their weddings at Flor de Cabrera in the next year. It was a very pleasant group, the owners Dan and Ruthie, Kellie and Jonathan, Natasha and Andre, Christian and Trisha, Veronica, Monica and Tiffany. At times it felt like a reality TV show, and I mean that in a good way. Not that often do you end up with perfect strangers in a large house, and leave friends. The in house staff was phenomenal. Luben, the head chef, created some amazing meals. My favorite was the surf and turf, lobster wrapped in filet mignon. Melvin, Arturo, Ray and all the staff were phenomenal. Barbara Estavez, a great wedding planner from Santiago, did a fantastic job setting up table settings and giving the couples some great options. One of the highlights of the trip for me personally, was the bonfire beach dinner on our last night at the villa. There was great company, fantastic food and a warm fire. I took one of my favorite images there of Christian and Trisha with the silhouette of the fire. I can not wait to go back to Villa Flor de Cabrera.

Carla and Paul’s Engagement Session (Bali, W. Australia)

This January I went on tour with the San Francisco band Alma Desnuda, for their first international tour through Bali, Indonesia and various parts of Western Australia. I flew out on New Year’s day, a week after the band had already been performing at the Ayana Resort’s Rock Bar. When I got to the resort I learned that Paul, the guitarist and vocals for the band, proposed to his girlfriend Carla. Paul had the chance to ask for Carla’s hand in marriage from her father, who passed away a few months ago back in Spain. Its a very touching story that shows the type of person that Paul is. He waited until the tour for the right moment in Jimbaran Bay, Bali to ask the question. For around 3 weeks that I toured with the band, Paul and Carla took photos with me at various locations making this the longest engagement shoot I have ever done. I am very happy for them and it feels good knowing how much these photos mean to them. Holly and Ian’s Engagement Shoot

Holly and Ian are this cute couple that found me on Google. They were getting married in a few weeks and wanted some fun creative shots around the city. We had a great time in Golden Gate Park, China Town, and North Beach. Afterward we went to grab some dinner and had the idea of going ice-skating. If they weren’t such a nice couple I probably would have left once we go to the rink, since it was freezing cold and the line was around the block. It didn’t take much to convince myself to stay, and I am glad I did. Here are some highlights from this 6 hour shoot.

Matt’s wedding proposal to Meghan 5.24.9

I woke up at 8am this Sunday morning in order to capture a wedding proposal. Matt called just two days ago asking me if I am available to shoot, and I was. We communicated via text message in the morning, coordinating logistics of catching up with them at the Palace of Fine Arts. Once I made positive ID, I followed the couple, acting like a regular tourist with a couple of professional cameras, taking shots of PFA and the couple when Meghan was not looking in my direction. While Meghan was taking a photo of the ceiling of the PFA dome, Matt got on one knee behind her and took out the ring. When she turned around she was very surprised. She said yes. Matt introduced us, and the three of us ended up walking around the lake to take a few engagement snaps. They met up with family in the Marina. I am glad it worked out the way Matt intended, and very happy to provide them with some great images to treasure.
