Carly and Seth Engagement Session 6.19.10

After Denver I flew out to New York to do photograph my clients for a December wedding in the Dominican Republic. They are a really great couple, and I am very excited to photograph their destination wedding. I am glad I was able to come out for their engagement session, since it always takes a bit of time to get a relationship going between a couple and a photographer. We ended up photographing around Central Park, a fantastic New York location.

Michael and Laura Shoot at the Oakland Zoo 4.11.10

As always, I shoot rain or shine. For this shoot we had the full use of the Oakland Zoo. Even though it rained, we were able to keep dry for the most part getting the shots we needed. I love the railroad tracks at the Oakland Zoo, and as with my last shoot the train came just as we were taking the photos. I added a little motion blur to the train, but there was some natural blur as the train was moving. Special thanks to Toni from the Oakland Zoo for being such a wonderful guide and flash holder.

Angeline and Sebastian Wedding (part 2)

This is the portrait session I did for Angeline and Sebastian’s wedding. Their dog, Mariposa, is a huge part of their life and they insisted on getting her for the shoot. I loved the idea of using their pet in the photos, but wanted to do something unusual and fun. These are the results of inserting this dressed up wedding couple and their dog in one of the busiest parts of the city. I absolutely love taking photos in North Beach. I loved every minute of this shoot. They are truly a great couple, and I am really glad I was part of their special day.

Coachella 2010

For those who don’t know, in addition to wedding photography one of my passions is music photography. I really enjoy the fast pace of music photography, all the great bands and pretty lights. Speaking of Pretty Lights, I photographed them at the Independent in San Francisco a few months ago. I ended up shooting them on Friday and again on Saturday at a private Pool party. Its amazing seeing an artist perform in front of 8 thousand people in a tent and again for a 200 person pool party. This was my 3rd year photographing at Coachella, and probably the best. For the first few years we stayed in a Worldmark resort condos with various groups. This year we had a house in Palm Desert, 15 minutes from the venue, and an amazing pool which we turned into a giant hottub due to our lacof expertise in pool heating. This was not a record breaking year for pool parties, only two. However, we did go to the venue all three days, and saw at least parts of the headliners, which did not always happen. On top of great organization in planning and accommodations, we ended up with a really great group of people. Our house had 9 people, most of whom I did not know before the trip. We ended up having a lot of fun together, and hopefully we’ll reconnect next year. My highlights from the music standpoint were the Gorillaz, Tiesto, Deadmou5, Pretty Lights, Hot Chip, Phoenix, MGMT, Major Lazer, and the Do Lab tent. Big shout out to the Metrowize crew for making it all happen. Can’t wait to do Coachella next year. At the rate we are doing this event every year, I would not be surprised if we have our own pool party next year. Till next time Coachella!

Marjorie and Dan’s Engagement Session 3.21.10

For this engagement session we decided to go up to one of Napa Valley’s finest restaurants. Brix is located a mile north of Yountville. This great location features private dining inside their wine room, outdoor dining and a few other private rooms as well as conventional seating. They were a very laid back couple, and having shot her sister’s wedding Marjorie and Dan felt comfortable with me and let me take charge of the shoot. In addition to setting up the shots to capture the beauty of the property and the surroundings, I also paid close attention to the couple’s interaction in order to capture feeling and emotion, in addition to getting beautiful photos. In addition to getting great shots through out the day, we got to enjoy everything Brix had to offer: great food, great views and great wine. The restaurant has a very nice patio with a great view of the mountain, a vineyard and the Napa Valley Train tracks. Another nice thing about Brix, is that in addition to wedding receptions they can do also facilitate wedding ceremonies as well. This is not so standard in Napa. Overall we had a great experience shooting, and the photos are a byproduct of our stay on the premises. In addition to recommending Brix to my wedding clients, I recommend it to my friends as well.

Allie and Jenny 3.12.10

I first photographed Allie and her boyfriend a few years ago. This time Allie and her sister Jenn contacted me for a fun shoot for their dad’s birthday present. We met at the Conservatory of Flowers and went inside the tunnel adjacent to it. There were some guys playing Jazz at the end of the tunnel, so naturally I sat them in front of the musicians. We stayed there for a few songs, allowing them to enjoy the music while I took some shots, featuring the musicians. I left them a card along with a tip, hoping they’ll contact me for their closeups. I really enjoy incorporating the natural environment, especially if its interesting people.

Sarah and Eric 2.14.10

I spent this Valentines day with a great couple, Sarah and Eric. We’ve done an engagement shoot in the past, but I needed a couple for a commercial shoot at the Oakland Zoo, and they were up for the romantic activity. It was one of the coolest shoots I’ve ever done, and the access that we got from the zoo was nothing short of exceptional. The images are for the zoo to promote their wedding packages, and I was more than happy to take the job. We took some shots in front of their Snow building, and then moved into the Zoo. The employees brought out a snake and a ferret. They had names, but I forgot them. I tried to capture the great features of the park, as well as capture the romance between Sarah and Eric. Our second bridal fair @ Westin St. Francis, San Franciso 1.31.10

We just had our second bridal fair of the year, and it was amazing. Got to meet some great couples and had a pretty good overall presence. The Westin’s loading zone was super convenient, and it was a quarter of the trip we had to make at the first show. My team for this show included Lina, Chelsea and Mike. We were rocking and rolling in our little corner. Everyone loved the books, and we had some brides that stayed well over 20 minutes. The feedback and the connections we received were fantastic. Kimberly and her team from International Wedding Festival put on a great show. Our next show is with Modern Bridal on Feburary 28th, at the Concourse Pavilion in San Francisco.
