This January I went on tour with the San Francisco band Alma Desnuda, for their first international tour through Bali, Indonesia and various parts of Western Australia.  I flew out on New Year’s day, a week after the band had already been performing at the Ayana Resort’s Rock Bar. When I got to the resort I learned that Paul, the guitarist and vocals for the band,  proposed to his girlfriend Carla. Paul had the chance to ask for Carla’s hand in marriage from her father, who passed away a few months ago back in Spain.  Its a very touching story that shows the type of person that Paul is.  He  waited until the tour for the right moment in Jimbaran Bay, Bali to ask the question.  For around 3 weeks that I toured with the band, Paul and Carla took photos with me at various locations making this the longest engagement shoot I have ever done.  I am very happy for them and it feels good knowing how much these photos mean to them. When I met Meghan and Joe back in Spring, I knew that their wedding was going to be something special. Their venue choice and their easy going attitude made me excited all the way to their wedding day. The amount of detail and work that went into every aspect of the wedding is exceptional. The venue itself is gorgeous, with an impressive redwood grove for the ceremony. The reception had two elevated stages that were the perfect settings for the food buffet and the desert bar. The old wine cellar ruins was the perfect spot for the cocktail hour and dancing. One of my favorite shots included the guitarist, Jay Alvarez. He played a Spanish song, “Ojala”, during the reception and first dance. Meghan and Joe met in Argentina, and the song is symbolic for them. Putting Jay with his guitar in the background tied in their special song into imagery. All the vendors were fantastic to work with. I am honored that Joe and Meghan trusted me with their special day.

I shoot many events, and have gotten lucky with a few killer referrals. However, this is one of those events where I am flabbergasted at even the thought of being invited to shoot such an evening. The sold out event was to raise money for the guest of honor, Angela Bofill. Carlos Santana, Bonnie Raitt, Narada Michael Walden, Mary Wilson and other great musicians. The photos are destined to probably end up in SF Chronicle, Jet and some other publications.

I got a chance to take some cool shots of Splyce, in an attempt to perfect my DJ shooting techiques. I set up 2 flashes, one on camera, and one off to the side to create a hard light effect. DJ Splyce is well known, especialy in LA area…here are the pics:
