Did a family shoot for two siblings and their beloved this past Fall. Its always fun to photograph people and their dogs. Since San Francisco is such a dog-friendly city we had a lot of options for locales. We had a fantastic session at Baker Beach, Washington Square Park in the North Beach neighborhood, and Pacific Heights.

Terra Gallery Wedding – Rosi and Eddie

This San Francisco wedding took place at St. Dominic’s Church and Terra Gallery. It was a pleasure and great fun to photograph the wedding of my friends Rosi and Eddie. In spite of the threatening clouds in the sky that day, it did not end up raining. Rosi and Eddie held their ceremony at the beautiful St. Dominic’s Catholic Church in the Lower Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco. With English Gothic-style architecture, the arches and carved marble provided a great setting to the ceremony.

After the wedding, the entire wedding party did a shoot at Fort Point, located in the shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge. A lovely, iconic location to use for a backdrop. We also took shots near the San Francisco City Hall.

The reception was a fun and beautiful experience as well. It was held at the San Francisco event space Terra Gallery, where high ceilings and floor-to-ceilings windows provided a beautiful ambiance for celebrating. The caterer for the event was from the same place Eddie works, and made enough food to feed 500+ people! Rosi and Eddie also had a Mexican mariachi band that provided great music and atmosphere for the celebration while DJ Mixtec also kept the party going as the night went on. Everyone had the opportunity to let out their creative side with a one of the best Photo Booth in the Bay Area from SnapFiesta.

Dominican Republic wedding at Flor de Cabrera – Heike & Stephen

Destination weddings are one of my specialties, and I write a lot about them on my blogs. I’ve also written articles in such publications such as Destination I Do Magazine, Ceremony Magazine and Destination Weddin g and Honeymoons Magazine . Villa weddings in the Dominican Republic are some of the most romantic and intimate ways to tie the knot. As far as Caribbean weddings, Villa Flor de Cabrera located on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic is one of my favorite villas.

Located next to the town of Cabrera, Villa Flor de Cabrera is a fantastic choice for couples looking to get married in an exotic Dominican locale. Heike and Stephen are a lovely and quirky couple from Seattle who chose to have their close family present for their destination wedding. They and their families were the exclusive guests of the villa for the entire week, and I had the privilege of being immersed in family life for several days while I took photos of all the festivities. Different activities were arranged for everyone to enjoy, from beach picnics to outings to the local cigar maker, Babanuco. Martha Cabrera, was the officiant for the wedding and did a fabulous job as always. The villa chef, Lubin, is a master at creating delicious creations from the local food supply, as well as procuring rare spices, high-quality meet and hard to find seafood. Ocean Beach Engagement Session – Stacey and Travis

One of my favorite spots for engagement sessions in San Francisco is the magnificent Ocean Beach. With the Great Highway running alongside the exquisite expanse of the Pacific Ocean, it is by far one of the most picturesque natural settings in all of San Francisco. Because of its strong current, the waves of Ocean Beach draw local and visiting surfers alike, including our groom, Travis and his fiance, Stacey. Travis is an avid surfer and since Ocean Beach is near their home it was a meaningful and beautiful choice for their engagement shoot. In addition to the awesome shots in the dune grasses, we were able to take advantage of having a Beach Patrol truck nearby and I took some sweet shots of the couple. I really enjoyed this working with this couple, and their love for each other and their beach came through beautifully in these images. Behind-the-scenes shoot with Jennifer Granholm

I had the privilege of shooting a session with with former two-term Michigan governor, Jennifer Granholm who’s new show The War Room will be premiering on Current TV in January 2012. Ms. Granholm has received much acclaim for bringing life to Michigan’s economy during a particularly troublesome period. During a promotion video shoot for the upcoming nightly series, I captured behind-the-scenes shots, and afterwards did a portrait session with Ms. Granholm.

San Francisco Engagement Session – Tegan and Igor

I absolutely love San Francisco engagement shoots. New love is a captivating thing and there are so many awesome settings in this city to capture it. Tegan and Igor are really cute couple and it was fantastic to Golden Gate Park as a backdrop for the session. Igor is Russian like me, so we connected easily which contributed to a having a fun and relaxed shoot.

At Golden Gate Park we started at Stow Lake before moving on to the Palace of Fine Arts. After our time in the park, we headed to Baker Beach to capture shots in the shadow of the majestic Golden Gate Bridge. This lovely couple will be marrying next year at the beautiful Temple Emanu-El

Anna Cecilia’s Bat Mitzvah at Stone Pine Estate

I had a great time photographing the Bat Mitzvah of Anna Cecilia at the beautiful Stone Pine Estate in Carmel Valley, CA. Although the family currently resides in Chicago, they are originally from Mexico City. Therefore, guests of the event traveled from both locations to celebrate Anna Cecilia. Most of the family stayed overnight at the estate, while others used accommodations at other nearby properties.

San Francisco Latin band, Pellejo Seco started off the night with amazing Cuban jazz, while well-know Bay Area-based DJ Solomon worked his magic to keep the party rocking into the night. A surprise performance from an amazing mariachi band capped off the night. An undeniable highlights for the birthday girl was a personalized message from the New York Yankees!

It was wonderful to see this family reunite from great distances for such a special occasion. All the guests had a great time, and the family took great care to ensure that every little detail was taken care of.

Dominican Republic Photoshoot – Law Offices of Garcia Blanco

This Dominican Republic photo shoot was really special one for me for professional and personal reasons. One of the wonderful things about running your own business is the opportunity to be involved with and give back to the communities where I live and work. Back in April, I gifted three photo sessions which were auctioned off at a fundraiser, El Futuro II, for La Academia Internacional de Cabrera , here in the DR. Their fundraiser was held at the luxurious private villa, Casa Kimball and I’m thrilled to say that I was able to help raise close to $2,500 for the school! One of the sessions bids was won by the law office of Garcia Blcanco & Asociados.

The law office is just meters from the beach, in the town of Cabarete in the North Coast of the Dominican Republic. So it was only natural to keep the beach vibe with all the employees in light, comfortable clothing, with a beautiful backdrop of water and greenery. This is a serious law practice, with a lighter side which is evident in this shoot. One cool feature of this law office is that they support local schools and education. We visited the 3 Mariposas Montessori School, in town, to take photos with the children. This is a school which the law office has a personal relationship with and helps keep the doors of the school open. After connecting with the school and the kids, I began my own visits to the school, teaching photography to the youngsters…more on that later.
